  • Relationship-focused individual therapy

Referrals that may be a good fit

I particularly welcome referrals relating to:

  • ADHD, Autism and other neurodivergent experiences
  • Late identification or exploration of neurodivergence
  • Neurodivergent and mixed-neurotype relationships
  • Relationship difficulties, recurring conflict or emotional disconnection
  • Anxiety, stress, emotional overwhelm and burnout
  • Attachment and interpersonal patterns
  • Family-of-origin experiences
  • Parenting stress and adjustment to parenthood
  • Emotional regulation and communication difficulties
  • Intimacy and emotional connection
  • Identity, self-understanding and major life transitions

I also work with individuals wanting to better understand their own relationship patterns or difficulties within current or previous relationships.

My practice is neurodiversity affirming and LGBTQIA+ affirming. Self-identification of neurodivergence is respected and a formal diagnosis is not required to access neuroaffirming therapy.

Couples Therapy

Couples therapy is a significant focus of my practice.

I work with neurodivergent, mixed-neurotype, neurotypical and LGBTQIA+ couples, including couples experiencing:

  • Repeated conflict or communication difficulties
  • Emotional disconnection
  • Recurring relationship patterns
  • Difficulties around intimacy or attachment
  • Adjustment to parenthood
  • Major life transitions

My couples work is primarily informed by Emotionally Focused Couples Therapy (EFCT) and attachment theory.

I do not assume there is one “correct” way for couples to communicate, connect or experience intimacy. Therapy focuses on understanding each partner’s needs, communication style, nervous system and relationship patterns, and developing approaches that work for that particular couple.

Therapeutic Approach

My work is collaborative, relational, trauma-informed and neurodiversity affirming.

Depending on the client’s needs and preferences, therapy may draw from Emotionally Focused Therapy, attachment-based approaches, schema-informed therapy, Cognitive Behavioural Therapy, Compassion-Focused Therapy and family-of-origin work.

Sessions can be adapted around differences in communication, processing time, eye contact, movement, sensory needs and executive functioning.

Medicare, NDIS and Private Referrals

Medicare: Rebates are available for eligible individual psychology sessions where a valid referral and Mental Health Treatment Plan are in place.

Couples therapy: Couples therapy is not Medicare-rebatable and is provided on a private-fee basis.

NDIS: Self-managed NDIS participants are welcome where the referral and therapeutic goals are appropriate.

When Amora Psychology May Not Be the Right Service

As an independent private psychology practice, Amora Psychology does not provide crisis, emergency or after-hours services.

Referral to a higher-intensity or specialist service may be more appropriate where someone requires:

  • Acute crisis intervention or immediate psychiatric support
  • Intensive or highly responsive case management
  • Management of significant and immediate risk
  • Intensive substance dependence treatment
  • Specialist eating disorder treatment requiring multidisciplinary medical monitoring
  • Forensic assessment, medico-legal reporting or court-directed treatment

For couples therapy, additional assessment may be required where there are concerns regarding coercive control, family or domestic violence, significant safety concerns, or other circumstances where conjoint therapy may not currently be appropriate.

If you are unsure whether a referral would be suitable, you are very welcome to contact me before referring.
