Couples therapy Sunshine Coast
At Amora Psychology, Clinical Psychologist Madison Sundgren provides couples therapy on the Sunshine Coast, primarily informed by Emotionally Focused Therapy. Online appointments are also available across Australia.
Relationships can become strained even when both people care deeply about making them work.
Parenting, work, mental load, changing identities, stress and years of putting everything else first can leave couples feeling more like housemates than partners.
You may be considering couples therapy because
- you keep having the same argument
- communication quickly becomes defensive or shuts down
- you feel emotionally distant
- affection or intimacy has changed
- parenting and mental load are creating tension
- you no longer feel like a team
- you understand the problem but don’t know how to change it
- your relationship is important to you and you want to strengthen it proactively
A structured assessment
You do not need to wait until your relationship is at breaking point. Couples therapy can also be a place to understand your relationship better and strengthen something you already value.
I begin couples work with a structured assessment rather than immediately moving into ongoing therapy.
- a 90-minute couples intake session
- a 60-minute individual session with each partner
- comprehensive questionnaires
- a feedback and treatment planning session
Approach and availability
At the end of this process, I explain what I see happening in your relationship, the strengths you already have, and what I believe would be most helpful moving forward. You can then decide whether you would like to continue into ongoing couples therapy.
My couples work is primarily informed by Emotionally Focused Therapy (EFT), an evidence-based attachment-focused approach that helps couples understand and change the emotional patterns keeping them stuck.
I also have a particular interest in neurodivergent relationships, including ADHD, autistic and mixed-neurotype couples.
Sessions are available on the Sunshine Coast and via telehealth across Australia.
